FRANK HURLEY (1885-1962)

Huge blocks ... were thrown about in indescribable confusion

Sep 1915Oct 1915

RCIN 2580076

As his title indicates, Hurley continued to be fascinated by the weird and wonderful shapes thrown up by the shifting ice floes, as well as the sight of the vulnerable ship dwarfed by huge grotesquely formed blocks of ice. The sharp edges and eroded shapes of the ice appear to have been softened in this image by a recent fall of snow.
