Furrows of frozen spray

Mar 1911

RCIN 2580033

In early March, Ponting made a number of photographs of the ice furrows that formed at Cape Evans after a blizzard. Ponting wrote, ‘The spray from the waves … had frozen into very beautiful forms: ice furrows, as though the ice had been turned over by a gigantic plough’ (from The Great White South, 1922). Ex cat. Robert Falcon Scott (1868 – 1912)
