FRANK HURLEY (1885-1962)

Efforts being made to free the ship from frozen captivity

15 Feb 1915

RCIN 2580060

On 14 February open water appeared ¼ mile away from the ship and all hands hurried to seize ice saws, axes, shovels, chisels and picks to cut a sailing channel. Hurley captures the men’s strenuous efforts to free the ship, unhappily without success.
