ANDREA DEL SARTO (FLORENCE 1486-FLORENCE 1530)

Portrait of a Woman in Yellow

c.1529-30

RCIN 404427

This portrait of an unknown woman dates from the very end of Sarto’s life, and is unfinished. The highly polished skin tones of the face contrast with the spontaneity of her dress, where in places the paint has been adjusted with the artist’s fingers. The way the sitter emerges from the dark background is typical of Sarto’s late work.
