INDIAN

Necklace

RCIN 11355

This necklace was made by Phillips Brothers & Sons using gemstones from a necklace presented to the Prince of Wales by the Maharaja of Gwalior. The London-based jewellers admired Indian enamelling and gem setting, and created jewellery inspired by the techniques of the subcontinent. Here they have mounted the diamonds and rubies to preserve the original kundan (pure gold) setting and enamelling on the reverse. The red and green enamelled ornaments represent an attempt by the jeweller to emulate Indian enamel work.
