ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

Officers of the 8th Hussars

Apr 1855

RCIN 2500355

Fenton made a number of group portraits of men from the five Light Cavalry regiments that charged on 25 October. News of the action had caught the public imagination, and the names of the regiments became well-known. Fenton would probably have seen photographs of men who may have fought in the battle as having greater commercial potential.

From the collection of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII
