ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

Mr Angell

1855

RCIN 2500304

The post office and its staff played a significant role in the Crimean War, and the Old Post Office in Balaklava was among the first places photographed by Fenton when he arrived in the Crimea. The improved military postal service developed during the Crimean War enabled reporters such as William Howard Russell to send back regular reports for the British newspapers.

From the collection of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII
