ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

Hardships in the Crimea

1855

RCIN 2500388

Fenton took a number of staged photographs of camp life, including this group of the 4th Dragoon Guards. Generally, the titles of his portraits are the name of the sitter or regiment photographed, but this is one of a small number which have been given a more emotive title.

From the collection of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII
