DANIEL MYTENS (C. 1590-1647)

Charles I

Signed and dated 1628

RCIN 404448

As an artist Mytens is notable for the care with which he depicts tiny details of fashionable clothing. Here he indicates the manner in which the pointed corners of the tabs below the waist have a tendency to curve upwards over time. The contrast in texture between the glossy gold silk satin of the sleeve, the plum-coloured damask fabric of the breeches and the softly creased leather of the boots is also skilfully represented in paint.
