THOMAS ROWLANDSON (1757-1827)

The Poll.

RCIN 810064

While Fox was supported by the Duchess of Devonshire, his main rival in the constituency of Westminster, Sir Cecil Wray, was helped by Albinia, Countess of Buckinghamshire. A prominent society figure, the Countess moved in the same circles as the Duchess, and encountered the same criticisms. Here the two women, in licentious dress, are shown on a see-saw, with their candidates egging them on. Probably acquired during the reign of Queen Victoria Cat. 10
