A hand-coloured print depicting fourteen male and female heads with various facial expressions. The use of a long narrow sheet of figures was developed by Rowlandson’s contemporary, Henry William Bunbury (1750–1811). Here, Rowlandson uses the format to examine the reactions of a group of characters to an oratorio – sacred music for singers and orchestra, which was performed in London during Lent.
