DUCCIO DI BUONINSEGNA (ACTIVE 1278 - BEFORE 1319)

Triptych: Crucifixion and other Scenes

c. 1302-08

RCIN 400095

Duccio was the most celebrated artist working in medieval Siena. The gold background enhances the jewel-like quality of this small devotional altarpiece. The recession into space of the two thrones in the left and right wings indicate the artist's innovative attempt to convey perspective.
