HARDY AMIES (1909-2003)

Evening gown

1959

RCIN 100071

Worn for dinner at Government House, Nova Scotia, Canada, 1 August 1959. The subtle combination of blue-grey silk organza and pink, and white embroidery, with a simple fitted bodice and full pleated skirt, belies the diplomatic message conveyed by this dress. The sprigs of blossom represent mayflowers – the regional emblem of Nova Scotia. The skirt is embellished with pink duchesse satin bows.
