SIR NORMAN HARTNELL (1901-79)

Evening Dress

1961

RCIN 250105

Worn for the State Visit to Nepal, February 1961 and for the Royal Film Performance of West Side Story, 1962. This dress provides an excellent example of Hartnell’s skill as a designer for The Queen. The dress reflects the tailored silhouette of 1960s eveningwear while the rich embroidery and fabric sets the dress apart from his collection models for the season, turning it into a unique dress appropriate for The Queen’s duties.
