Sketches for the design of The Queen’s Mantle of the Order of the British Empire

On becoming the first female Sovereign of the Order in 1952, The Queen required a newly designed mantle. Both King George V and King George VI had worn military uniform with the mantle of the order on ceremonial occasions. These sketches show alternative designs submitted by students at the Royal College of Art.
