Box containing a set of gold medals

Presented to The Queen on the occasion of the State Visit of President Nelson Mandela to the United Kingdom 9 – 12 July 1996. In 1994 Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa. The Duke of Edinburgh attended the President’s inauguration in 1994 and two years later President Mandela paid a state visit to the United Kingdom and presented these medals to The Queen.
