Following the execution of Charles I, the Parliamentary printers issued a number of proclamations on behalf of the ‘Rump Parliament’ and Commonwealth rulers, to be pinned or pasted in prominent locations. This proclamation abolished the role of monarch and stripped Charles II of his position as heir, referring to him as ‘Charls Stuart’ in an attempt to deny his royal status. Cat. 8
