CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

'The house with the inscription' and 'The house with the peristyle'

1741

RCIN 807805

Canaletto initially made this print as a single plate, showing an imagined scene looking down on a boatyard, but at some point he decided to divide the plate to create two separate compositions. The house on the left is inscribed with the date of 1741.
