SEBASTIANO RICCI (BELLUNO 1659-VENICE 1734)

The Feast in the House of Simon

c.1706-25

RCIN 404767

This painting is a reduced-scale copy of Paolo Veronese’s (1528–1588) painting of the Feast in the House of Simon in the Refectory of the Benedictine monastery of Santi Nazaro and Celso in Verona. Joseph Smith had several paintings by Sebastiano after Veronese and it has even been suggested that he was trying to pass them off as sixteenth-century originals.
