FRANCESCO ZUCCARELLI (PITIGLIANO 1702-FLORENCE 1788)

A hunting scene

c.1750

RCIN 451842

Francesco Zuccarelli arrived in Venice from central Italy in 1732 and his talents were soon noticed by Smith. This drawing is one of a set of five large landscapes commissioned by Smith: they were destined not for an album but to be framed and hung, and daylight has caused the blue paper to discolour to brown.
