CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

Venice: The central stretch of the Grand Canal

c.1734

RCIN 907471

This is a view from the mid-point of the central stretch of the Grand Canal, looking towards the Rialto bridge, half of which is visible in the distance as the canal bends to the left. In the right foreground is Palazzo Corner-Spinelli; beyond, the tallest building is Palazzo Grimani. On the horizon is the pointed bell tower of San Bartolomeo, replaced soon after by a taller baroque structure.
