The artist Carl Haag had travelled in the Middle East in the late 1850s. After his return to Britain, the Prince of Wales commissioned Haag to paint this imagined scene of the royal encampment outside the ruins of Baalbek. The six standing columns are just visible behind the Temple of Jupiter. Commissioned by the Prince of Wales in 1863
