AFTER ROGIER VAN DER WEYDEN (C. 1399-1464)

Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy (1396-1467)

c. 1445

RCIN 403440

Philip the Good ruled the Burgundian Netherlands for forty-eight years. Numerous similarly impersonal portraits of him survive, probably following a design by Rogier van der Weyden. The Duke is shown in three-quarter profile holding a scroll and wearing the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, an Order of Chivalry which he established in 1430.
