Opera: Passion, Power and Politics at Victoria & Albert Museum [London]

This exhibition presents a vivid history of Opera through the prism of urban life in Europe. The exhibition traces the history of seven important premieres, bringing together major paintings alongside decorative arts, costumes and original scores to show each opera in its cultural context. Bernardo Strozzi's painting, The Concert, is included in the section dedicated to L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi, premiered in Venice during the carnival season of 1642-3.

Many other items from the Royal Collection are on long-term loan to the Victoria & Albert Museum.
