A watercolour showing Queen Victoria's first grandchild, Prince Wilhelm of Prussia. He is shown full-length, from behind, standing with his arms held in front of him. He is wearing a nineteenth-century child's dress, tied at the back and shoulders with black bows.

In September 1860, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed in Coburg as part of their visit to Germany. While there they saw their eighteen month old grandson, the future Kaiser Wilhelm II, for the first time. The Prussian Court were all in deep mourning for Prince Albert's Step-Mother, the Dowager Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha who had died the day before the Queen and the Prince Consort arrived. -
