-
A pen and ink drawing of Queen Adelaide and two of her ladies with a man. Signed and dated 'D. Wilkie 1833.'.
The ladies depicted accompanying Queen Adelaide in this drawing are identified as Miss Hudson and Miss Byng. Miss Hudson is presumably Miss Charlotte A. Hudson, Maid of Honour (probably appointed in 1833; mentioned in the Royal Kalendar of 1834, p. 128). She may have been the daughter of Harrington Hudson of Bessingby Hall, Bridlington, Yorkshire, and thus the sister of Sir James Hudson (1810-1885), who became a gentleman usher to Queen Adelaide in 1831. There is no mention of a Miss Byng in the Kalendar Companion of 1833.Provenance
The artist's sale, Christie's, 26 April 1842, lot 219; purchased by Queen Elizabeth II at Christie's, 20 June 1978, lot 129
