A watercolour drawing of Old Windsor, with a several large trees comprising most of the view. Windsor Castle from the south-east is seen in the far distance through the trees. In the middle ground on the right, a cottage behind a fence with cattle. In the foreground, a carpet beater and a knife grinder in the foreground. Hills in the distance. The sheet of thin card is circumscribed with a black ink line and grey wash border. Signed in watercolour on the tree trunk to the left: P.S. Old Windsor 1792.
Sandby rarely dated his earlier works, but several views of Windsor and the surrounding area from the 1790s are dated. The village of Old Windsor lies to the south east of Windsor.Provenance
