A pen and ink and watercolour drawing of two ladies on the terrace of Old Somerset House. One figure seated on low wall on the right. The River Thames and St Paul's Cathedral in the background. Mounted together with RCIN 914446. Inscribed below on the modern mount, possibly copied from an earlier one 'In Somerset House Gardens'. Sandby settled in London from 1752. The seated female figure also appears in RCIN 914505, with the same yellow dress and black shawl. The standing female figure appears in an etching of Bothwell Castle made in 1751 (Nagler, no. 16).
