A drawing of the Canale delle Barche at Mestre on the Venetian mainland. On either side of the canal are roads, trees, and houses. The building in the left foreground has been identified both as a customs house and as an inn. Groups of figures, a carriage and a figure on horseback are in the foreground.
An etching by Canaletto entitled 'Mestre' (Bromberg 3) corresponds with this drawing (RCIN 807834 and 807844). An oil painting of this subject is in a private collection in London (formerly in the collection of Sir George Leon).Provenance
