Engraving with etching of Henri IV, King of France and Navarre. An allegorical scene in which Henri IV, shown in armour, is pictured being presented with a portrait of his consort, Marie de Medicis, held by Cupid and Hymen. The King is accompanied by an allegorical figure representing France, as the peacock, eagles, and the figures of Jupiter and Juno look on from the clouds. With putti supporting a shield and helmet below, and with a view of a landscape in the background. With French inscription below, including publisher's address, 'A Paris chez le Sr. Nattier Peintre de l'Academie Royale rue Frementeau Avec Privilege du Roy. For another impression see RCIN 616710.
This print is from a series of twenty-four engravings, known as the La Gallerie du Palais du Luxembourg. This series comprises of engravings after the series of paintings by Rubens commissioned by Marie de Medci which hung in the Gallerie du Palais du Luxembourg. These engravings were based on designs by the Nattier brothers and were published between 1707-09. -
