A Peasant Leaning on a Window Ledge. c.1660-85
Oil on panel | 29.3 x 23.8 cm (support, canvas/panel/stretcher external) | RCIN 406628
-
Described as ‘damaged’ even in the time of George IV (and valued at a mere twenty guineas), this painting does not seem to be of sufficient quality to be an original by Ostade. A peasant is seen leaning on a window ledge, wearing a felt hat and a dark shirt and holding a glass in his right hand; behind him a second figure appears in an interior.
Provenance
Purchased by George IV in 1806
