This portrait is a collaboration between two artists working in Germany: Joachim Kayser and Johan Anton von Klyher. The distribution of labour is impossible to determine but the portrait was painted at Hanover in 1727, the year in which George II became King and Frederick became Prince of Wales. The Prince rides a grey horse rearing to the right, holding a red baton in his right hand; a low extensive landscape beyond; he wears a red-brown jacket over a cuirass, long powdered hair, the riband of the Garter; light blue saddlecloth.
Signed: 'J: A: de Klijer & J. Keijser fec 1727'Provenance
Probably acquired by Frederick, Prince of Wales; first recorded at Kensington Palace in 1818
