Oil on canvas | 60.7 x 45.7 cm (support, canvas/panel/stretcher external) | RCIN 405208

According to a label on the reverse Lander was commissioned to paint this portrait for the Illustrated London News in 1922. It is unlikely that Princess Mary sat for Lander and the painting was probably developed from a photograph. The portrait dates from the year of her marriage to Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood (1882-1947).
In the half-length portrait Princess Mary is wearing a white dress with a spray of flowers at her breast; a string of pearls at her neck and mauve ribbon in her hair. The frame is by J.J. Patrickson.Provenance
