Outside, in a garden, Prince Aribert of Anhalt-Dessau (1864-1933) stands facing front, holding a cigar in his right hand. Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein (1872-1956) sits on a wickerwork table on Prince Aribert's left; with a small dog on table beside her. They both look towards the camera.
The photograph was probably taken about the time of their marriage on 6 July 1891. The marriage was not a success and it was annulled in 1900; she never re-married. In 1917 the Princess discontinued the use of her German title and name, like many of her cousins and German relations, when King George V changed the family name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor. -
