Photograph by the steps of Claremont, showing the Duchess of Albany with her two children, Princess Alice (riding on the rocking horse) and Charles Edward, Duke of Albany (wearing kilt), and Princes Alexander and Leopold and Princess Victoria Eugénie of Battenberg. Helen, Duchess of Albany, was the widow of Queen Victoria's youngest son, Leopold, Duke of Albany, who had died in 1884. She and her two children, Princess Alice (riding on the rocking horse) and Charles Edward, Duke of Albany (wearing a kilt), lived at Claremont, near Esher in Surrey, and can here be seen with the three children of Princess Beatrice and Prince Henry of Battenberg.
