Photograph of the Oreanda Palace. The two storey building is in the classical style and has a partially covered garden to the left. It is surrounded by trees and there is a small group of buildings to the right. The sea extends behind. In the foreground to the right there is a small temple with a circular colonnade on the edge of a cliff.
The Oreanda Palace was the Crimean residence of Grand Duke Constantine Nikolayevich. It was destroyed by fire in 1882. The Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, visited the Crimea in 1869 as part of a tour of the East. It is likely that this set of photographs were collected during or just after the tour.Provenance
Acquired by the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, c.1869
