During midwinter 1915
Silver bromide print | RCIN 2580095
Photograph of the "Endurance" lit by flashlight in the night. The ship is surrounded by blocks of ice. A cloud of ice vapour is coming off the ship; the tortured ice in front and the thickness of the frost crystals on the rigging show both how thoroughly trapped the ship was, and the extreme coldness of the Antarctic winter.
