An album of photographs of view of British Columbia, taken from 1867 to 1870. The album contains photographs of settlement towns and villages around British Columbia including Victoria, Vancouver, Esquimalt, San Juan Island, Fort Rupert, Comox, Lytton, New Westminster, Yale, Clinton, Cariboo, Soda Creek and Barkerville. The album includes photographs of various individual and group photographs of various First Nation peoples including people from the Songhees, Cowichan and Moosqueen/m (?) people groups. The photographs show the settlements of the First Nation people including their homes, burial grounds and evidence of their fishing activities (with the inclusion of images of their salmon weir, herring drifters, candlefish drying and salmon caches stored in high trees). Also included in the album are photographs of the new waggon roads and the gold mines in the Cariboo district of British Columbia.
Frederick Dally (1838-1914) arrived in Victoria British Columbia in 1862 at the height of the Cariboo gold rush. He left Victoria to study dentistry in the United States and two years later in 1872, he left for England. He died in Wolverhampton on July 28th 1914.
