Volume containing 77 photographs (RCINs 2119237-2119313) showing the hang of the paintings exhibited at the first National Portrait Exhibition of 1866, with printed captions.
This was the first of a series of three grand exhibitions displayed at the South Kensington Museum, London, between 1866 and 1868. The first exhibition, held between 16 April and 18 August 1866, featured portraits of people linked to the history of England from the time of the reign of Henry II (r. 1154–1189) until the revolution of 1688, and contained over a thousand works. -
