Capricci of Padua and Murano

These two capricci are based on views in the towns and cities around Venice. The medieval clocktower and bridge are reminiscent of Vicenza and Padua, which Canaletto is known to have visited in the 1740s. The Gothic apse of a church appears to be that of Santa Maria e San Donato, on the island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon.
