Practical Information for visiting Clarence House

Wardens with visitors to Clarence House

All visits to Clarence House are by guided tour with a Warden, lasting 45 minutes.

Security and Luggage

For safety and security reasons, a one-way system operates along the visitor route.

Security screening

On arrival, you and your belongings will be subject to airport-style security checks. Try to bring as little as possible with you as it will help you to get through security screening more quickly.

Just the same as if you were at an airport, please remove all metal objects from your pockets before going through the security arch and pack cameras, phones, keys and wallets in your bag before placing the bag through the security scanner.

You may carry handbags and use pacemakers, hearing aids and other electrical or electronic equipment needed for health reasons. Please approach a Warden if you have any concerns or require assistance.

Restricted items

Some items, including large items of baggage, backpacks, pushchairs, pen-knives and scissors will have to be checked in and reclaimed at the end of the visit. Other items may not be brought into the House at all.

Smoking, including electronic e-cigarettes is not permitted.

As Clarence House is a working royal palace, security and opening arrangements may be subject to change at short notice.

Photography, filming and mobile phones

Photography and filming including the use of wearable devices for personal, non-commercial purposes are not permitted in Clarence House or its grounds.

In consideration of other visitors mobile phones must be switched off in Clarence House and its grounds.

Applications for commercial filming should be submitted through this application form.

Refreshments

Eating and drinking are not permitted inside Clarence House. You will be asked to place drinks and food in closed bags before being admitted. Food and drink are not available for purchase at Clarence House, but there are many cafes and restaurants in the local area.

toilets

There are no toilets or baby-care facilities available at Clarence House. The closest available facilities are in St James’s Park (run by Royal Parks), opposite the visitor entrance to Clarence House. A small charge is applicable for use of these facilities.

1-Year Pass

At the end of your visit, don’t forget to ask a Warden to stamp your ticket to convert it into a 1-Year Pass. You can enjoy free re-admission for a year by asking us to treat your ticket purchase as a donation. Terms and conditions apply.

ACCESS AND MOBILITY

Clarence House is fully accessible. Concessionary rates are available if you have a disability and a companion is admitted free of charge.
