General tour

Available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Mandarin

The tour is introduced by The Prince of Wales, Chairman of the Royal Collection Trust, and takes you through all the State Rooms and the special exhibition. The commentary provides a lively guide to royal history and the works of art from the Royal Collection. You hear about the Palace’s transformation over the last 300 years, from its early beginnings as Buckingham House to the world-famous building we see today.

Along the route, staff of the Royal Household explain the role of the Palace as an official residence of The Queen and talk about their work, from arranging State Banquets and Garden Parties to cleaning the chandeliers.

Tour for blind and partially sighted visitors

The tour is rich in description, giving the listener a sense of the size and scale of the Palace, the decoration of the rooms and the texture of materials and furnishings. Expert curators highlight some of the greatest and most popular works in the Royal Collection, including paintings by Van Dyck and Canaletto.

Tour for D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors

The general tour is translated into British Sign Language and available as a video tour for our D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors. Subtitles are included. It is advisable to book the player in advance by contacting specialistsales@royalcollection.org.uk
