On 14 February, impress your Valentine with a gift ticket for one of this year’s must-see exhibitions, Victoria & Albert: Art & Love at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace. The exhibition celebrates one of history’s great love stories and Victoria and Albert’s delight in giving each other works of art. Presents exchanged by the royal couple range from the simple and sentimental to the dazzling. They include a set of exquisite jewellery in the form of orange blossom, and the beautiful sapphire and diamond brooch given by the Prince to the Queen the day before their wedding. The exhibition also challenges the popular image of Victoria – the melancholy widow of 40 years – and reveals her as a passionate and open-minded young woman. For Albert’s 24th birthday she commissioned a ‘secret picture’, showing her in an intimate pose with her hair half unravelled from its fashionable knot.
The Victoria & Albert: Art & Love gift ticket costs £8.75 (standard adult admission price) and is available from www.royalcollection.org.uk or 020 7766 7301 from 20 January to 28 February. It can be redeemed at any point during the exhibition opening (19 March – 31 October 2010) and can be converted into a 1-Year Pass to The Queen’s Gallery on the first visit.
For an extra-special gift, treat your loved-one to an Exclusive Evening Tour of Buckingham Palace when the Palace is closed to visitors.
