CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

Venice: The Bacino looking west from San Biagio

1729

RCIN 907457

The view is taken from in front of the church of San Biagio, on the Riva as it curves round east of the Bacino. In the distance are the Campanile and the dome of Santa Maria della Salute, with the Bucintoro at anchor in the foreground. The broad façade to the right is the Forni Militari, the state bakery that supplied the Republic’s ships as they left the Arsenale through the canal leading off to the right.
