Royal Weddings 1840 - 1947

An exhibition to celebrate the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of HM The Queen
and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in the Drawings Gallery, Windsor Castle,
27 April 2007 - 11 May 2008

This exhibition celebrates the Diamond Wedding anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in November 2007. Focusing on the marriages of the five sovereigns to have occupied the British throne in the last 150 years, it tells the stories of each wedding through photographs, objects and documents in the Royal Collection and the Royal Archives.

The four earlier weddings that are featured are those of Queen Victoria in 1840, King Edward VII in 1863, King George V in 1893, and of The Queen's parents (King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) in 1923. Although most royal weddings have taken place in London, in 1863 the marriage of Queen Victoria's son and heir - the future King Edward VII - was celebrated in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
