This exhibition marks the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of The Queen and Prince Philip and looks back to 20 November 1947, when the nation rejoiced in the happiness of the future Queen and her consort. Against the austerity of post-War Britain, with food and clothing rationing still in force, every aspect of the wedding preparations was eagerly followed at home and abroad. Thousands of people lined the processional route and millions listened to the live radio broadcast. 10,000 telegrams of congratulation were received at Buckingham Palace from around the world and over 200,000 people saw the special exhibition of wedding presents at St Jamess Palace. The Queens wedding dress toured the country and the film of the wedding was watched by many thousands of people at cinemas across the country.
