In 1947, The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, accompanied her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and her sister, Princess Margaret, on a tour of southern Africa.

During the tour, The Queen celebrated her 21st birthday and was presented with this diamond and platinum brooch in the form of a flame lily Gloriosa Superba from the Children of Southern Rhodesia.
