In 1976, The Queen opened the Games of the XXI Olympiad which were staged in Montreal. The Queen was accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Princess Anne competed in the Games as a member of the British Equestrian Team.
On the occasion of the opening ceremony, the Mayor of Montreal presented The Queen with a silver model of the Olympic Stadium, which had been designed by the French architect Roger Taillibert made by the Italian silversmiths Fratelli Cacchione.
