Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset

Nominated 1525

Illegitimate son of Henry VIII and his mistress Elizabeth Blount, created Duke of Richmond and Somerset, and a Knight of the Garter, when only six years old. A month later he was made Lord Admiral of England. Sent to Yorkshire as head of the council of the north in August 1525. Made Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1529 and, in August of the same year, summoned to Parliament. From 1529, responsibility for his care was given to Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk, and Fitzroy was often based at Windsor Castle, with Norfolk's son, Henry Howard, as companion. In 1533, he married Norfolk's daughter, Mary. Died suddenly in 1536.
