James V, King of Scotland

The son of Henry VIII's sister, Margaret, and James IV of Scotland, who he succeeded as an infant under the after the King's death at the battle of Flodden in 1513. After a brief marriage to Madeleine of Valois (d.1537), daughter of Francis I, married Mary, daughter of the Duke of Guise, in 1538. This marriage sealed a diplomatic alliance which was hostile to Henry VIII. James died in 1542 and was succeeded by his infant daughter Mary, Queen of Scots.
